Top 5 things you can do to prepare yourself for your headshot session.
A headshot session can be a big financial investment so you want to do everything you can to make sure yours goes as smoothly as possible. Here are my top 5 suggestions for things you can do to prepare on the days leading up to your shoots.
1. SLEEP
I can’t stress this enough, please do everything you can to get a good night’s sleep the night before the shoot. No only will you look better, you’ll have a more dynamic energy, which is what we’ll be hoping to capture during your headshot session. If you know you’re just not a morning person then make sure to schedule your headshot session later in the day. It’s your shoot, you’re paying for it, make sure it happens when you’re at your best.
2. WATER
Drink water! Lots of water! You want your skin to feel well hydrated for those closeups. There isn’t much of a photoshop fix for dry, flaky skin.
3. MAKE A MOOD BOARD
Don’t even know what you want your headshot to looks like? I love sites like Pinterest and I personally make mood boards all the time when I’m trying to show someone what I’m thinking in my head. If you are unsure of what you want in a headshot, start making a board on Pinterest of simply headshots you like. Very soon you’ll start to see patterns evolving and I’m betting you’ll begin to have more of an idea of what you’d want. Once you have a board going that you like, 10-20 images, share it with your photographer.
4. GET A HAIR CUT
I can’t believe I have to say this but you’d be surprised at how many people don’t consider this. Guys especially. You want to look your best, GET A HAIRCUT YA BUM.
5. RELAX
Meditate, do some yoga, drink some fancy herbal tea’s! Apps like Calm and Headspace are wonderful for guided meditations and yoga studios are literally EVERYWHERE. There are countless ways to help yourself get in to the right mind space, but first and foremost, a positive mental attitude going in to the shoot will set the tone for the entire day. Personally, I go in to every shoot knowing that if we keep open minds, if we allow ourselves to try things and be ok with failing until we get it right, together we can create some incredible photos that I know you’ll love.
